Nails of the Century!

Usually in my house, if I even ATTEMPT to go near the clippers Buster runs for the hills. Previously I had purchased a moderately priced sander/grinder number that helped but did not completely get rid of the problem. It took FOREVER and the battery would always die after about a paw. Buster also had an issue with the noise and it just didnt have enough umph to really get the job done. Even when bribed with peanut butter (I know not good but its his FAVORITE treat that only comes out for nails) Buster still couldn't go a session without needing a full body restraint. This is difficult seeing how hes 135lbs as of last Thursdays vet visit. I hate to admit it but busters nails had gotten kinda gnarly since the last time I really got them and you could tell he wasnt happy with them but he still wouldn't sit still. Yesterday however, everything changed.

There is something you should know about me first. If there is one thing that is probably my worst habit its that I am an emotional shopper. Straight up, no doubt about it. When I get stressed or  upset the first thing I do is start thinking of all the things I want to buy with my hard earned money. This problem has only increased with Buster and the amazingness of buying so many goodies for your dog (and yes, my dog is one very pampered boy). Now this becomes a problem when you need to save for college so I try to use a lot of will power but yesterday, I failed. Not miserably but its definitely something I didnt think I REALLY needed but I wanted it.  I was wrong.

I needed it. After a long and very hard day at work, I stopped by the pet store to pick up flea meds real quick and guess what was staring me in my face? Dog nail trimming equipment. I hate trimming his nails and I had to do it tonight and my drill sucked and look at all these options and on and on my brain went swimming. I looked at all the products. Picked them up and put them back multiple times after telling myself no but instead, I failed. I bought a Dremel dog drill nail filler thingy(seen to your right), the box is out of reach at the moment so I dont know its precise name but it is AMAZING!! It is now on my must have list when my friends get dogs. Its power is insane. Its quite a bit quieter then my old model and the battery, although not as large as I would like, is still much longer then my old model. My old model had a plastic case around the sander to catch the case and smell absolutely rank with the burning plastic. Dremel doesnt have that so there is a lot of dust but I think its a fair trade. Hands down its the best purchase I have made so far and well worth the money I spent on it. Honestly, I think I might have broken down and tried finding a groomer that specialized in big, obstinate dogs. Needless to say, Buster did awesome threw the whole process and was a very happy pup to have manicured toes again :) One note to watch out for is to always be cautious of the quick. Buster has black nails which makes it even more difficult so you need to take breaks and clear the dust to check for the quick. I have cut his a couple times using clippers I am sad to say and it sucks :( Overall, Buster goes to bed a happy pup tonight :)

*Slightly relevant fun fact of the night* If you do accidentally cut your dogs quick and are fresh out of quick-stop, you are told to try plain cooking flower (this didnt work for me when I was flipping out plus getting buster to hold still was a nightmare) and after that just get a bar of soap (I would use unscented) and put the quick on it. It stops the bleeding almost instantly and has worked twice with me instantly. The first time I actually had quickstop but when it got cut Buster FREAKED out and knocked it EVERYWHERE. I thought  I was going to have to take him in but NOPE! the internet didnt fail me when it told me to do that :)

Anyway, I need to head to bed now :) Buster is already passed out and I have to work in the morning. Hope everyone has an amazing week and thanks for reading :)

BUSY WEEK!

Sorry for no posts lately. I know two posts then a sudden stop probably seems odd but the truth is that I have been terribly busy. Working two jobs and trying to find time for your dog can be stressful and doesn't leave much time for  blogging. My parents (who I live with over the summer) went on a vacation recently which left me in charge of the house, outside animals, dog and also my amazing jobs. Needless to say I was very busy these last few weeks. Luckily my parents are back so I don't have to race home for Busters meds and then do some pretty intense playing to get all that pent up energy out (and there was a LOT of energy pent up), then run over and feed the chickens and the neighbors cats and horse. Did I mention I was busy? ;) Anyway, I hate to write so little but turns out I have to run again. I promise to check back in later this week after I trim Busters nails which should provide ample information to write about. :) Hope everyone is having a great Monday!
